I’ve written many songs about wanting more but In The Belly Of The Feast is about wanting less. In the spring of 2013, I was feeling overwhelmed by the godawful noise on the news. My private life was confusing and I had no idea where to put my left foot next. So, instead of decision making, I tied a red bandana around my head and wrote these five songs. I played some of them in dive bars with a string band that loved rock and roll. When that band closed up shop I put these songs away.

I think this is a good time to bring them out again. I’ve struggled recently to feel useful as a singer-songwriter, a tiny voice bouncing off an enormous wall of ugliness, but these songs feel useful to me. These are agitated songs, peace-seeking missiles, and I want to get them out of my head. I want to keep walking forward and leave a record of what has happened.
